New line and ETF on old line
To set it up, here is the current situation. I originally opened a line with Sprint in 2001. I was on my own for a few years, and then I switched to a line on my family’s account in 2005. I am currently still on that plan (they have 5 lines). In February of this year, my Treo bit the dust, and I needed to get a new phone (no insurance, which I now have). As such, I went with a Rumor and signed a new two year contract. Now, I have recently graduated and it would be nice to have a smartphone for work, but I cannot afford one sans rebates. I am considering my options, but I am thinking of opening my own account once again, and having my line and one other. I will probably go with a BB Curve and an Instinct, and the 129.99 talk/message/data share plan. The second line is for someone else who does not need a smartphone.
The problem with this is that I will still have the line on my family’s account until Feb. 2010 at $12/month, or I can pay the $200 ETF. Does anyone see any options or solutions I am missing here? Do you think Sprint would be willing to work with me since I have been a customer for 7 years.
In addition, I am looking at getting a phone-as-modem plan for the Curve. How does this addition to a plan normally work, and is the price negotiable?
I appreciate any feedback/suggestions, and please let me know if you need any more info.
